The next year is going to be soooo fun

Stolen from my offline diary:

6/04/08

Summer has taken a definite toll on my writing. It usually does.

Day 3 and I am still in love with my job – even though it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows today. Loads of injuries, I was not even without pain. We were roller skating at an indoor rink today – I am no good on roller skates apparently. They are worlds away from blades, my friends. The first time I biffed it, about three minutes in, I jarred my bad shoulder. It’s been hurting like a beast for the past two weeks anyway, so I concentrated on not catching myself with that arm next time I fell. And I did fall, practically on the next turn. On the next two falls I managed to slam the heel of my right hand into the floor. I was fairly sure the second fall broke it and the third fall confirmed it. But, no, I gave myself the wrist fracture test (as I had already administered to two kids that day) and it’s not broken. It hurts like the dickens and my palm is bruised and swollen. Lucky, I’m a tough bitch.

So, there’s my huge news in my life that I have yet to properly reflect on in writing. My sister got engaged last week, last Tuesday in fact. I’ve been expecting either an engagement or a break up since Thanksgiving, so you wouldn’t think I was surprised. But I was. I didn’t even believe her when she told me. I had to call my parents for confirmation. I was just so set on that if it didn’t happen on or right after my graduation, it wasn’t going to happen.

But lo and behold, the sneakiness of both my father and my sister’s now fiancé Giant. Giant apparently asked for Judge’s blessing at 9:45 AM on Mother’s Day, the day after my graduation and they both kept it a very, very tight secret ever after. And Giant, for his part, waited until a random Tuesday two weeks later to do the deed. Pretty tricky, Soon to be Brother.

I’m very happy for Spice and glad that it’s Giant who’s joining the family. She’s had quite a few boyfriends, and anyone who know me can tell you I’m very exacting in my standards for guys who date my friends/relatives. I could count the number of boyfriends of my friends I like on one hand even after traveling to Mount Doom. Wait, I don’t even know if there’s four. Okay, I like Giant, I like J’s fiancé, I like . . . um, I think I would like Mo’s boyfriend if I ever met him and well, my level of affection for Libby’s current bf is astronomical when you compare it to the intense loathing I had for her previous beau . . . so, what? Three and a half? Maybe? Shoot.

I’d rather not delve into the deep emotional issues that no doubt at the root of my penchant for disliking the males belonging to my female pals, and I even less do I like thinking about the sinister feelings I have towards my buddy Diesel’s newest girlfriend . . . so I shall go back to talking about Spice’s impending nuptials.

She decided (yeah, she. Let’s not even begin pretending Giant has any sort of say in what goes down in this shindig) that the wedding shall be next April 25th. I will be the unfortunate maid of honor, bedecked in either ice blue or mint green satin, alongside her childhood best friend Blondie as the matron of honor. Giant has no siblings and so only has a best man and one groomsman selected from his friends. We make up the rather small bridal party, Quint shall be an usher and bitty little Cousin Gracie Lou will be the flower girl. Spice had qualms that I would throw a middle child style fit about the wedding being so close to my 23rd birthday, but since my birthdays have rather sucked in the past few years, I don’t think it’s too big a deal. After all, I spent my last birthday in class from 7 AM until 8 PM and promptly went into a mono coma until the next day. I barely knew it was my birthday. I don’t care that it’s close to my birthday.

I’m soooo glad I’m moving out to a location that is only one hour from her house. Oh, shit! It was an hour from her old house! She just sold that mofo (probably something that prompted the proposal) and she and Giant are moving to a house closer to where she works. Which is closer to where I (will) work! Bummer.

In other news, my newest roomie is pretty cool. She's from New Mexico, just here for the summer, and we've definitely already had chats that lasted for hours. I like her. Too bad she's only around for two months.
